Victim of vicious assault by murderer alleges garda incompetence

The husband of a woman murdered by an offender who was out on bail for violent assault wants to sue the State.

The news follows yesterday's claims from the Fianna Fáil leader that he has seen evidence alleging gardaí failed to properly investigate serious crimes, including murder and abduction.

Micheál Martin says he obtained the documents after meeting garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

One of the cases in question is believed to be the murder of Sylvia Roche Kelly in Limerick in December 2007 by Jerry McGrath.

Taxi driver Mary Lynch was viciously attacked by Sylvia Roche Kelly's murderer Jerry McGrath, before her death, she told Newstalk's Pat Kenny Show she narrowly escaped a far worse fate:

Lecturer and author Emer Connolly of the University of Limerick told Newstalk's Breakfast that Sylvia's husband is looking to sue the state over the fact that McGrath was out on bail at the time:
