The Fianna Fáil leader's accusing the Justice Minister of misleading the Dáil in relation to garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Micheál Martin yesterday revealed he obtained documents after meeting Sergeant McCabe, which contain evidence alleging gardaí failed to properly investigate serious crimes.

On Newstalk's Breakfast, Micheál Martin slammed Mr. Shatter's treatment of Maurice McCabe and said he believes the Minister's position is untenable:

Eight Independent TDs agree. The group includes Shane Ross, Mattie McGrath, Catherine Murphy, John Halligan and Roisin Shortall.

They say Minister Shatter's political judgement has been called into question recently.

Meanwhile, the Communications Minister says Oliver Connolly's sacking as the go-between for garda whistleblowers was "inevitable".

Pat Rabbitte says the office of the confidential recipient was "misconceived" and never served the purpose it was intended to.

News of Oliver Connolly's sacking was announced by the Taoiseach yesterday, after a transcript showed Mr. Connolly told a garda whistleblower that the Minister for Justice would "go after him" was leaked:
