Shona Murray is Newstalk's Foreign Affairs correspondent, chronicling the world's most important stories.
In October 2013, she covered President Michael D. Higgins' 2 week official visit to Central America including Mexico and El Salvador.
Shona regularly reports from the Middle East and has documented the plight of Syrian refugees at Syria’s borders with Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, since the conflict began.
In November 2013, she revisited Lebanon documenting the ever expanding Syrian conflict as well as the worsening refugee crisis there.
Earlier in October 2013, she reported on the rise of jihadist and Islamist armed groups armed groups in Northern Syria, documenting testimonies from various actors including opposition rebel groups from the area.
Committed to the topic of sexual violence and use of rape as a tool of war, Shona reported from the Democratic Republic of Congo in August 2013, speaking with rape victims from East DRC's violent militia groups as well as soldiers in the Congolese army.
She has spent time in Colombia, reporting on the internal armed conflict that continues to plague the country as a result of warring FARC guerrila and paramilitary fighting groups.
In November 2012 she reported from Gaza city and Israel on the conflict between the Israeli state and Hamas.
Shona has reported on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict for the last 8 years, returning at least once a year to the region including the Gaza strip.
In 2010, and 2011 she reported on the devastation following the earthquake in Haiti and its effects to civil society, documenting the soaring levels of rape and violence that occurred in the aftermath of the catastrophic disaster as well as the post-election violence almost one year on.
Shona also reports on European Affairs for Newstalk and attends all European Summits in Brussels as well as other important EU related meetings.
She has an LL.M in international law and an M.Phil in International Peace Studies - both from Trinity College Dublin, and is also an alumna of the US state department's IVLP programme on foreign policy and board member of the Ireland United States Alumni Association.
