George Hook

Newstalk is proud that it gave George his first prime time radio programme in April 2002. Since then The Right Hook has grown from strength to strength and has propelled George Hook to a position where he is an instantly recognisable face – and voice - in Irish media. His meteoric rise, at a time of life when he himself suggests that he “should be consulting an undertaker,” has no equal in Irish broadcasting history. Before finding his natural home on the wireless, George worked as a salesman, businessman and Rugby Union coach, including a stint coaching the USA team. He has been a constant presence on RTE Televison’s Rugby panel since the late 1990s and writes a weekly column for the Cork News. In 2005 George published his best selling autobiography ‘Time Added On’ and was the Dublin Chamber of Commerce’s most popular speaker in 2006.

George is the ‘People’s Presenter’ and through his strong probing style he continues to champion the causes of the man in the street and to challenge the decisions of those in authority

The success of the Right Hook has been due, in no small measure, to the ability of George to connect with his audience and wear his heart on his sleeve. On any given day George will exude passion, anger, laughter, upset and empathy; connecting the listener to subjects they want to engage with.

George has been married to “the lovely” Ingrid for over 40 years, and has three children, Michelle, George Jr. and Alison.
