Parents are being warned not to allow their kids swim in the Royal and Grand Canals and the Liffey in Dublin.

It comes after a child contracted a flesh-eating bug as a result of swimming in the water at the Grand Canal.

The recent run of good weather has encouraged many people to go swimming in Dublin waterways.

Tuesday was actually the hottest day of the year so far with 27 degrees in Furnace in Co. Mayo, while Dublin saw 26 degree temperatures.

Signs are up advising people not to swim there.

The child's mother, Rachael Sneedon, spoke to 98FM about the incident.
