Strike action could be on the card's at Irish Rail, after SIPTU workers voted to reject Labour Court recommendations on a cost saving plan.

The company wants to change workers' terms and conditions in a bid to save 8.7 million euro this year.

SIPTU balloted its staff on the proposals which they rejected by 51 per cent to 49.

The union says it will now meet with management to discuss the situation -and ballot its members on strike and industrial action.
