An inquest has heard Peaches Geldof was a heroin addict who had been taking the substitute drug methadone for more than two years prior to her death.

Her husband, Thomas Cohen, has told the hearing Peaches (25) had started using heroin again in February this year.

Reporter Nick Pisa was at the Coroner's Court to hear evidence - he says her husband told the court she had started using heroin again in February:

Peaches was found dead, slumped on a bed at their home in Kent in April.

Mr Cohen has also told authorities that his wife may have lied to him about her weekly drug tests being clear.

Police who called to her Kent home on the day she died found 6.9g of heroin with a street value of up to €700.

A senior officer told the inquest the ongoing police investigation into who supplied the drugs to the mother-of-twohas yielded no arrests and police found no evidence that anyone was at the property with Peaches when she overdosed.

The coroner, who found the model's death was drugs-related, said the high purity of the heroin had been a factor.

Last hours

Thomas Cohen's father Keith Cohen was one of the last people to see Peaches. He told the inquest that Peaches seemed in good spirits when he dropped her youngest son Paedra back to her home on the afternoon of Sunday April 6th.

Later she posted a picture of herself and her late mother Paula Yates on her Instagram account, before texting friends and family members. The last known contact with her was at 7.45 that evening, when she had a 12 minute conversation with a friend she had earlier asked to call her. After that her husband and other individuals tried, but failed, to reach her.

Peaches Geldof was found dead by her husband the following afternoon.

Thomas Cohen called emergency services within five minutes of entering the house and finding her body, telling paramedics he believed his wife had taken an overdose of heroin.

Police officers arrived within 20 minutes, followed by medics who confirmed Peaches was dead.

Bob Geldof, subsequently identified his daughter at a nearby hospital.

Police evidence

Police told the inquest they found a pair of black tights tied with a knot underneath Peaches' body - which were probably being used as a tourniquet. Investigators also found a dessert spoon with visible burn marks on the underside and a small amount of a brown residue on the upper side, as well as a capped syringe containing traces of heroin.

Elsewhere in the home police found 6.9 grams of heroin, and drug-taking paraphenalia - including dozens of syringes.

The heroin found was of 61% purity - street grade heroin is about 26% pure.

The 6.91 grams recovered would be worth between £350-£550 (€440-€700).

Two cards advertising the Westminster needle exchange were also discovered among Peaches' belongings.

Blood tests

Blood tests showed Peaches had a high level of heroin in her system and probably died shortly after injecting.

A forensic scientist explained that tolerance to heroin is lost quite quickly after a person stops using, saying "deaths commonly occur in people who have previously been tolerant and have returned to using heroin".

Peaches had been receiving professional treatment for more than two years prior to her death, and was taking methadone.

Her drug treatment provider said their last drug tests on her, from November 2013, were clear and showed a reducing level of methadone. Peaches had expressed a desire to come off methadone completely, but the inquest also heard she had been struggling with her treatment in her final months and was offered additional support to help her sleep.

A post mortem carried out on her body found recent puncture marks on the inside of both elbows and on her left hand.

However, Police said they found no trace that a third party had been at the scene and no indication that Peaches intended to take her own life.
