The owner of an American bar who put a “No Irish Drunks” sign in his window has removed the original, and replaced it with a homemade “No Sensitive Drunks” sign.

The original sign caused received negative feedback for the bar, The Dock bar in Montauk, Long Island. This was despite the owner, George Watson, telling IrishCentral.com he felt the Irish would see the funny side. "If you spoke about any other religion or race they would probably take offense to it, but the Irish have a sense of humour," Watson said.

The ‘No Irish Drunks’ sign was one of a list of barred items, including: ‘Yappin Mutts’, ‘Screaming Kids’, ‘Cell Phones’, ‘Strollers’ and ‘Pubic Restrooms’.

Irish American groups took offense to the signs, with Pauline Turley of the Irish Arts Centre in New York City telling Irish Central: “I was taken aback by the way that kind of stereotype was so blatantly displayed,” she said. “’No Irish Drunks,’ that’s very pointed."
