Ireland's Tommy McCarthy has won his preliminary round bout at the World Amateur Championships in Kazakhstan.
The Belfast heavyweight was the only member of the Irish squad in action today but he was more than a match for his Bulgarian opponent, Nikolay Mutavski, winning all three rounds on his way to a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
McCarthy will now have to face Canadian fighter Samir El-Mais, who was given a bye into the last-32 after being ranked as the 10th seed in the draw.
Michael Conlan, Paddy Barnes, Jason Quigley and Joe Ward have all received byes into the last-32 after being seeded in yesterday's draw.
