Mayo manager James Horan says Cillian O'Connor is rehabbing well.

The forward is attempting to recover from a dislocated shoulder in time for the All Ireland final and has returned to non- contact training in recent days.

The Connacht Champions meet Dublin in the decider on September 22nd.

To those of us who like things explained through the medium of popular culture references then Horan has helped us out comparing O'Connors injury and recovery to that of Sergeant Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson ) in Lethal Weapon 2 when he popped his shoulder back in following a battle with some dastardly South Africans.

So if Cillian O'Connor is Riggs then who in the Mayo set up is Murtagh? I can't imagine Andy Moran saying "I'm getting tool old for this" or after knocking over a point adding "just been revoked" that would sound rather out of place on the GAA pitch.

If O'Connor is Mel Gibson and Moran is George Murtagh in Lethal Weapon 2 then I guess James Horan is Mel Gibson in Braveheart, the Ballintubber man has built his squad back up following what could have been crushing defeats over the years and made them believe they can win the All Ireland.

Just like Braveheart he's putting together a well prepared army with clever tactics and guys who are willing to do anything it takes to get the job done and being Sam back west for the first time since… I won’t say the year again Mayo fans you need reminding and believe me as a Waterford man I feel your pain.

While this Mayo team have shown the battle qualities of the Scots in Braveharts (a mosvie more fiction than fact)  I imagine they will stop short of mass mooning of the Hill before the All Ireland final alla the Tartans as they pitched up for battle of Stirling Bridge.

Unlike Braveheart the myths of many Mayo men are not exaggerated, Aidan O'Shea actually is 7 feet tall and Andy Moran does fire lighting bolts but with his boot and not his backside.

I can just imagine it now the speech in the dressing room before the final if O'Connor isn't fit to start , James Horan mounted on his horse face coloured green and red "they may take our Cillian but  they can never take our Freeeemaaaannnn.
