It happened at around 10:45pm on Sunday night and it is believed he was involved in row inside the chipper a short time beforehand.

A post mortem revealed he suffered knife wounds to the stomach, chest and back.

Investigating garda arrested Mr Colgan yesterday morning and he was charged with Mr Sheridan's murder at lunchtime today.

There was no mention of bail during his brief court appearance because that will have to be heard before a High Court judge.

An application for legal aid was granted after the court was told he earns €550 a week.

The judge directed that the accused be given any medical attention he needs while in custody and he was then led away by prison officers

He is due back before Cloverhill District Court next week.
