The dramatics of the series continue through until the final act. The Lions have lost to Australia, by one point, in Melbourne. The Lions had an opportunity to seal the series win in stoppage time, but Leigh Halfpenny missed a penalty kick from halfway to allow the Australian side tie the series at 1-1.

The Wallabies leave the Etihad Stadium with a 16-15 win thanks to a try from Adam-Ashley Cooper with 5 minutes left. Christian Leali’ifano showed the same solid nerves he had displayed all game as he slotted over the conversion to put his side ahead. Until that point the game had been a kicking duel, with enither Halfpenny nor Leali'ifano missing a beat for their sides.

A turnover with mere second left gave the Lions a shot at a reprieve they scarcely merited. A penalty on the halfway mark offered Leigh Halfpenny the chance to etch his name not Lions folklore with one of the all-time great test series performances.

The Welsh full back’s kick landed short however and Gatland’s side were left, dejected wandering about the Melbourne pitch, surely aware that they have surrendered momentum and now face a major task in winning this series.
