It appears in Ballitore, Co Kildare they do things a little differently as a video of a very unique charity event has surfaced on YouTube.

On July 12th, five teams of four men competed in the Barrel Race, a 2.2km run in which each team had to kick and roll an empty beer barrell along the country roads to the city square in Ballitore.

The only rules of the race are that you must only roll the barrel with your feet. No carrying of the barrel is allowed, however, if the barrel goes into a ditch you can pick it up and place it on the road again and continue.

The event is held to raise funds for local man Jimmy Byrne and the National Council for the Blind, Ireland to help provide them with much needed funds.

Crookstown Inn were champions for the second year in a row completing the course in the time of 10'26".

The prize for the winners was of course a full barrel of beer, just not one that had been kicked a few miles down the road.
