Adam Clayton's former personal assistant will today learn the outcome of an appeal against her conviction and seven year sentence for stealing nearly 3 million euro from the U2 bass guitarist.

Carol Hawkins, originally from North London but with a last address at Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin was jailed in 2012 on 181 counts of theft between 2004 and 2008.

Healthcare workers will put their readiness for a potential Ebola outbreak in Ireland to the test today.

Dublin's Mater hospital is to stage a major incident simulation involving its National Isolation Unit.

Hospital staff, Gardai, ambulance and fire crews will all be involved in the operation which is due to run from midday to 5pm.

An anti-racism rally is due to take place in Waterford this afternoon in response to a number of demonstrations against the city's Roma community last weekend.

Almost 200 people gathered outside the home of a large Roma family - including toddlers and children - and staged a protest in which windows were smashed, and the doors broken in.

Some Roma families had to be evacuated from their homes and are now living at undisclosed addresses.

An unmanned rocket has blown up seconds after lift-off in the U.S.

The Orbital Sciences Corp rocket blew up over the launchpad at Wallops Island in Virginia.

It was due to be taking supplies to the International Space Station - no-one is believed to be hurt.

A lava flow from a volcano has destroyed several farm buildings on Hawaii's Big Island.

People in nearby villages have been told to prepare to leave their homes.

The lava first bubbled up in June and after weeks of slow, stop-and-go movement, it's on the move again.
