A bridge dedicated to former Manchester United player Liam Whelan has been defaced in Phibsoro, North Dublin.
Graffiti bearing the message "Munich B*****d" was daubed on the railway bridge which is close to Dalymount Park.
Whelan, who was born in Dublin, died in the Munich Air Disaster which killed 23 people including eight Manchester United players in 1958. Whelan was just 22 when he passed away in the crash.
Fans of nearby Bohemians FC and local volunteers came to the rescue to remove the insulting graffiti...

The bridge was renamed in Whelan's honour in 2006 and his former team-mate Bobby Charlton attended the official unveiling.
Whelan is buried nearby in Glasnevin cemetery.
